                                  What is Massage Therapy?

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of Soft tissues in order to increase circulation, maintain flexibility, & release muscle
spasm and pain.  It slows heart rate, promotes deeper breathing, & encourages relaxation

Massage is particularly beneficial to persons suffering from tension headaches, back pain, stiff & sore muscles, insomnia, Carpel tunnel or other repetitive-use syndromes and stress caused by environmental or emotional factors.

A combination of techniques are utilized to create a massage session designed to meet each client’s unique needs:

SWEDISH MASSAGE incorporates long, soothing strokes & friction-like movements to increase circulation & relax stiff muscles.

DEEP TISSUE & NEURO-MUSCULAR techniques are more specific methods used to access areas of taut, fibrous muscular tissue in order to release spasms and pain.

TRIGGER PONT THERAPY is applying appropriate pressure to areas of pain or small contraction knots in muscles to “release” it.

 About Your Massage:

Before your massage begins, you will be asked some general health questions since there are some conditions for which massage is not appropriate.

The massage room will be warm & quiet, with soft music and sound of the ocean to set a relaxing mood.  Your massage will take place on a table especially designed for support and comfort.  The therapist will leave the room while you undress to your comfort level, cover yourself with a fresh sheet, & relax onto the table.  During the session you will be covered at all times except for the area of your body being massaged.  Please feel free to let the therapist know at any time I if you are too cold or warm, if the pressure being used is too much or too little.  Your main job is to just lay back and imagine being pampered on a tropical island.  Imagine warm gentle breeze with the sounds of the ocean...your very own little getaway!

Sessions of 30 & 60 min. are available.  A half-hour session allows time for a partial massage, or treatment on a specific area.

An hour is enough time for a deep relaxing full  body massage, or a more in-depth treatment on a particular area.

Following the session, you will be asked to drink 6-8 glasses of water during the day, to further encourage elimination of waste products or toxins from your soft tissues.

Hot Stone Massage:

A form of bodywork that involves the application of heated stones (ThermoTherapy) to the body during the massage.  The warmth of the heated stones penetrates muscles and gives a sedative effect on the nervous system.  The warmth expands the blood vessels, pushing blood and unwanted waste materials out of muscle tissues. Mentally the client reaches a state of deep relaxation leading the body through the healing process.
